Man Is Born to Blog

“…I have discovered that all the unhappiness of men arises from one single fact, that they cannot stay quietly in their own chamber.” ~ Pascal

“Only degenerates go touring.” ~ Ignatius J. Reilly

“When [the Lord] aims for something to be always a-moving, He makes it longways, like a road or a horse or a wagon, but when He aims for something to stay put, He makes it up-and-down ways, like a tree or a man.” ~ Faulkner

This wide-ranging (if not all-encompassing) sample of quotes provides incontrovertible proof (think: more Pentecostal than Thomistic) that God smiles upon a cheerful blogger, for in order to blog properly, one should confine oneself to a chair for a fair amount of time. This is best done in the comfortable dimness of one’s room or local coffeehouse, which slyly can be made to approximate one’s room if the baristas can be distracted for any length of time.

I enjoy the smiles of God, so now I blog after having run from my vocation for too long. After all, if blogging is a communicative commission, who am I to give in to the mortal sin of despair and, thus, deny who what I have been called to do?

After all, “[i]f I didn’t have writing, I’d be running down the street hurling grenades in people’s faces” (Paul Fussell).
